A2L Field-Installation Instructions

Read all the instructions in this guideline carefully. If any of the instructions are unclear, clarify with a qualified licensed technician before proceeding.

  1. If not already plugged in, plug the 5’ sensor detection cable into the Refrigerant Detection Sensor (RDS).
  2. With the screws provided, mount the sensor directly onto the sheet metal delta plate on the front of the coil.
    1. The preferred position would be approximately 1” above the drain pan and below the suction line.
    2. If there is no room due to an installed TXV or feeder parts, find an open spot in the general area.
  3. The sensor can be mounted horizontally or vertically for the desired directional orientation.
    1. NEVER INSTALL THE SENSOR ON THE BOTTOM OF A CABINET UPSIDE DOWN!
  4. Now run the 5’ cable to the electric/fan low-voltage control terminals.
    1. It may be necessary to drill a 5/8” hole to access the low-voltage terminals.
    2. Use the grommets provided to protect the cable.
    3. Use the bar ties to secure the looped cable after the proper length is determined.
    4. DO NOT ZIP TIE OR MAKE A SERVICE LOOP AT THE BOTTOM NEAR THE RDS SENSOR!
    5. DO NOT ZIP TIE THE CABLE TO PIPES!
  5. On the furnace/air handler low-voltage terminal block:
    1. Connect the red wire to the “R” terminal
    2. Connect the black wire to the “C” or “COM” terminal
    3. Connect the blue wire to the “G” terminal
    4. Connect theyellow wire to the “Y” or “Y1” terminal
  6. Connect thewhite wire to the low-voltage wire coming from the “Y” or “Y1” from the terminal on the outdoor unit.
